A road favorite, a backup quarterback, and a market that already moved

Philadelphia comes in missing more than its quarterback. Jalen Hurts is on injured reserve (blood clots) and may be done for the year; Tanner McKee makes his second start behind a line that has lost Lane Johnson to retirement, Cam Jurgens to a trade and Landon Dickerson to IR, with a rookie, Markel Bell, at right tackle. DeVonta Smith is out, so the targets funnel to Dallas Goedert, Hollywood Brown and rookie Makai Lemon. Saquon Barkley practised fully Saturday after a hamstring and is expected to play on a managed workload — he has 36 carries all season. The offense ranks 31st in EPA per play, has scored 14.5 points a game during a four-game skid, and converts under-center dropbacks at a league-low 15.2%.

Dallas is the opposite problem: the seventh-best offense in football by EPA per play (CeeDee Lamb third in the league in catches and yards, George Pickens 24-360-1 over the last month, Javonte Williams eight touchdowns) attached to the worst pass defense in football — last in EPA per pass, 6.0 yards a play allowed, 54.7% on third down. The Cowboys have also scored 16 and 13 in two prime-time losses, Dak Prescott has four interceptions in two weeks against pressure, and the tackle pair of Guyton and Steele has allowed the most pressures of any duo in the league. Both teams are 2-4; the home team won both 2025 meetings; Prescott has 223 straight passes at the Linc without an interception.

The market opened this game at Dallas -5.5 once Hurts went down and has drifted to -4.5 with the total down from 44.5 to 43.5 at DraftKings — against 70% of tickets on the Cowboys and two-thirds on the Over. Our model has Dallas by two (22.7–20.7, total 43.4) and, blended with the price, 63% to win; we put it at 64% after the research, which is a 3.5-point game, not 4.5. So we are not laying the points. The edges we found are volume: catches and yards against two defenses that cannot cover, a small lean to the Eagles with the points and to the Under, and Javonte Williams in the red zone at the right price.

Injuries that matter
PHI: Hurts (IR), DeVonta Smith, Wicks, Nolan Smith, Michael Carter II out; Barkley expected to play on a count; Dickerson/Greenard game-time. DAL: Turpin, Dee Winters, Shelton, Liufau, Locke out; Lamb, Pickens, Prescott not on the report; Durant and Overshown return.
Weather
Clear, about 58°F at kickoff falling to the low 50s, wind under 5 mph, no rain (NWS Philadelphia). Not a factor.
